Protect the North Fork

This website supports the efforts of residents in Colorado's North Fork Valley to secure meaningful protections for the public lands, clean water and air, and local community in which they live, work, and recreate.

Our Story

With Colorado's highest concentration of organic and sustainable farms and ranches, over a dozen wineries (and North America's highest wine arbors), exceptional farm-to-table dining, a strong creative community, and a growing list of festivals and events...

Surrounded by some of the nation's most beautiful public lands...

And home to an interesting and vibrant set of residents, businesses, and organizations the North Fork has long been known as a special place.

From the earliest days of American settlement in the valley, the local economy has relied on farming and coal-mining. Now, as the coalmines reach their end, many locals are looking toward the future, not reaching for the past.

Instead of accepting another boom and bust industry, many in the valley want to build a more sustainable and enduring economy. Oil and gas development does not fit with this vision for our future.

Protect the North Fork (NorthForkValley.org) is a project of the Colorado Farm & Food Alliance, which works to connect family farms, the local food movement, and farm-to-table enthusiasts with opportunities for conservation advocacy and climate action. Learn more at ColoradoFarmFood.org.
