Grand Jct. Sentinel: Group-Drilling is net loss to county

A North Fork Valley citizens group has revised a study in response to critiques and is continuing to conclude that a proposed drilling project there would have a net negative impact on Delta County.

Citizens for a Healthy Community’s updated study of a 35-well natural gas development project by Gunnison Energy now estimates it would generate about $411,000 to $437,000 a year in property and severance taxes and federal mineral royalties for the county each year, while potentially costing the county $810,000 a year in property and sales tax revenues from agritourism and outdoor recreation industries harmed by oil and gas development.
