Grand Jct. Sentinel: Judge-Paonia activist didn’t libel energy firm

A Delta County judge ruled that a Paonia man didn’t commit libel against an energy company because the comments he made were “substantially true.”

District Court Judge Steven Schultz issued the written ruling in a suit brought by SG Interests against Pete Kolbenschlag.

SG Interests sued Kolbenschlag in February 2017 over comments he made on the Glenwood Springs Post Independent newspaper website regarding an article on SG’s plans — since carried out — to sue the federal government over cancellation of its leases in the Thompson Divide area. The company alleges that collusion between the Obama administration and environmentalists led to the cancellation.
